CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 21, 2017) – The Sewanee softball team's season came to an end Friday after back-to-back losses against Millsaps and Centre in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament Friday at Frost Stadium.
The Tigers dropped their first game against the Majors 9-1 and then fell to the Colonels, 9-0.
Millsaps 9 --- Sewanee 1
Despite having 11 hitters reach base, the Tigers could not come up with a timely hit as Millsaps starter Cassidy DeNoon was able to pitch around multiple jams in the win. DeNoon walked seven batters, hit three others, and gave up a run, but still threw a no-hitter against Sewanee.
The lone Tiger run came when Miranda Townsend scored on a walk by Katie Roth. Millsaps finally broke the game open in the final two innings. Leading by one, 2-1, the Majors scored seven runs the final two innings. That included a homerun by Rayne Gravat.
Overall, the Majors finished with 11 hits and seven RBI. Sewanee starter Sydney Leibfritz was charged with the loss.
Centre 9 --- Sewanee 0
From the beginning, Centre's offense was rolling. The Colonels scored all nine runs over the first three innings. That included three in the first inning after a Sarah Aubuchon homerun. After a 445-minute weather delay, the Colonels returned to the field where Erika Brewer continued to pitch well. The Colonel starter gave up no runs or hits while striking out three in 3.0 innings. Sewanee did tag reliever Torey Hawkins with two hits.
Roth and Taylor Wagner both had back-to-back hits for the Tigers.
