DANVILLE, Ky. (April 1, 2017) – The Sewanee softball team dropped a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) doubleheader at Centre, Saturday.
The Tigers lost in the opener 11-2 and then fell in the second contest, 16-0.
In game one, Centre scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Just when it looked like the Colonels would run away with the win, Sewanee answered back in the top of the third. After Emily Taylor and Katie Roth reached, Taylor Wagner advanced both runners with a single to left field. Two batters later, Caroline Sweetin ripped a two-out, two-RBI single to left scoring both Taylor and Roth.
Unfortunately, Centre responded with seven runs over the next two innings.
Sweetin finished 1-for-2 with both RBI. She has now gone 7-for-15 with nine RBI and two runs scored in her last six games.
Charlotte Mabbs led Centre with a 3-for-3 effort in game one. Mabbs scored twice and had three RBI.
In the second game, Centre scored all 16 runs in the first four innings. That included eight runs in the bottom of the third. Roth, Miranda Townsend, and Amanda Watters led Sewanee at the plate with one hit each.
Centre starter Erika Brewer was outstanding inside the circle with six strikeouts and no runs allowed in the complete-game win.
Centre and Sewanee will conclude their series with a noon (EST) game, Sunday.
