Cross Country Teams Open Season at Sewanee Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee cross country teams opened the 2017 season with the 36th Sewanee Invitational at The Course at Sewanee on Saturday morning.

On the women's side, the 4K event was opposed by Dalton State (Ga.), where Sewanee defeated the Road Runners in the meet. The Tigers finished with 27 points, while the Road Runners had 28 points.

Tricia Murphy won the 4K event for the Purple and Gold, finishing with a 15:54.3 mark in the event. Elizabeth Haberstroh finished third, recording a 16:18.8 time.

Other Tigers scoring in the event include Ann Chapman Haynes (16:28), Sarah Carlton (16:59.40), Maren Czura (17:32.80), Hannah Faulkner (17:39.6) and Adriana Hibarra (18:07.3).

On the men's side, the team split into two, Sewanee Purple and Sewanee Gold. Owen Legrone won the event with a 19:50.8 time in the 6K for Sewanee Purple.

Ash Midyett finished with a 20:52.1 time to lead the Gold squad and finished second overall.

Jack Barganier finished second on the Gold team with a 21:10, while Bram Atkins came one-tenth of a second later for Purple at 21:10.1.

The teams will next travel to Huntsville, Ala. to compete in the UAH Chargers Invitational on Sept. 9.
