SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Tigers will run into the 2017 season this weekend, beginning with the 36th Sewanee Invitational at The Course at Sewanee.
The meet commences Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with a women's 4K, and a men's 6K will follow at 9:45 a.m.
On the men's side, looking to return to the NCAA South/Southeast regionals is Owen Legrone. He had four top-20 finishes in 2016, including a third place finish at the Mountaintop Invitational, hosted by Covenant College last September 2.
The Nashville native finished 11th at the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship with a time of 27:10.6, and he finished 42nd at regionals, with 27:04.5.
Sophomore Ash Midyett also earned a bid to the NCAA regionals a year ago. The juinor posted a 26:45.7 mark, good for 36th place. Also finishing in the top 20 with Legrone at the SAA Championships, the Fairhope, Ala. native finished 15th with a 27:25.1.
Senior Adam Steed recorded a season best of 34:05.7 in the Berry Invitational last October, and his career best happened as a sophomore two seasons ago at the same invitational at Berry, posting a 32:38.5 race.
The men's team, in 2016, finished fifth out of 29 teams at the South/Southeast Region Championships.
On the women's side, Hannah Faulkner also competed in the Regional Championships. The senior finished with 26:18 time at the event, the best in her career for the Woodbury, Tenn. native.
Elizabeth Haberstroh returns as the leading runner from the Regional Championships. The Birmingham, Ala. native finished with a 25:33.8 time in the 6K event, finishing 106th out of 213 runners.
