JACKSON, Miss. (Oct. 29, 2016) – Led by six All-Southern Athletic Association (SAA) runners Jackson Goodwin, Logan Stockton, Owen Legrone, Chris Hornsby, Mark McAlister, and Ash Midyett the Sewanee men's cross country team finished second at the annual conference championship meet. The Tiger women's team, led by All-SAA performer Katie Jannotta, finished fifth.
On the men's side, Sewanee had its best league finish in 20 years. The Tigers finished with 49 total points, 26 points behind winner Rhodes. Sewanee was ahead of third place finisher Berry and fourth place finisher Birmingham-Southern. Centre, Oglethorpe, Hendrix, and Millsaps rounded out the league standings.
In the women's race, Berry won the league title with 38 points. Rhodes and Centre were just behind the Vikings while Birmingham-Southern finished just ahead of Sewanee. The Tigers were followed by Millsaps, Oglethorpe, and Hendrix.
Individually, Goodwin led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish. His time of 26:12.25 was less than a minute behind winner Spencer Fields of Rhodes. Stockton also finished in the top-10 with a time of 26:53.20. Legrone was two spots behind Stockton in 11th (27:10.55), while Horsnby (27:13.72) and McAlister (27:18.27) were in 12th and 13th, respectively.
Midyett earned his All-SAA honor when he crossed the finish line in 15th with a time of 27:25.06.
On the women's side, Jannotta finished ninth with a mark of 23:42.59. That was a minute and a half behind winner Serena Gale-Butto of Centre.
