Nine Sewanee Track and Field Athletes Named to All-SAA Team

ATLANTA - The Sewanee track and field teams placed nine student-athletes on the 2018 Track Field All-Southern Athletic Association Teams, announced by the conference office Thursday morning.

On the men's side, Ash Midyett garners Second Team honors, while Carter Pettus, Dillon Spann and Letherio Jones earned Honorable Mention awards.

Midyett recorded a career-best 1:55.44 in the 800 meters for a second place finish at the SAA Championships. Earning All-Conference in the event for the second straight year, the sophomore is seventh in the South/Southeast regional.

Along with Midyett, Pettus, Spann and Jones ran to a third place finish in the 4x400 relay and season-best time of 3:25.84.

On the women's side, Karagan Day was named to the Second Team, while Kelsie Schiavone, Tricia Murphy, Elizabeth Shackelford and Meredith Stuber were each selected as Honorable Mention.

Day recorded three personal-best throws in her six attempts at the javelin, finishing with a second place throw of 40.62 meters, a career-best for the senior. The Spring Branch, Texas is currently ranked 14th nationally in the event.

The quartet of Schiavone, Murphy, Shackelford and Stuber shattered a 21-year record in the 4x400 relay, as the team ran to a third place time of 4:11.23.
