Midyett wins 800 meters; Tigers wrap up SAA Championships

ROME, Ga. (April 22, 2017) – Led by newly crowned Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Champion Ash Midyett, the Sewanee men and women's track and field teams wrapped up the league championships, Saturday, at Berry College.

Midyett led the Tigers with a win in the men's 800 meters. He posted a victorious time of 1:55.52, which was just enough to beat out Omari Miller of Oglethorpe.

As a team, Sewanee finished eighth in the women's competition and sixth in the men's event. Rhodes won the team title on the women's side while BSC earned another championship in the men's title race.

Along with Midyett, Logan Stockton capped off a great season with a fifth place finish in the men's 5000 meters. Stockton finished with a time of 15:39.55, which edged teammates Mark McAlister (seventh/15:43.95) and Jourdan Redden (12th/16:38.29).

Later in the meet, Stockton finished ninth in the men's 1500 meters. His time of 4:13.41 was just outside those scoring team points.

Meredith Stuber led the women's team with a seventh-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.90 seconds.

Additionally, in the sprints, Davis Couch finished seventh in the men's 400 meters. Couch crossed the finish line in 51.08 seconds.
