SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 14, 2017) – Led by wins from Kelsie Schiavone, Logan Stockton, Miles Martin, and Ridge Davis, the Sewanee track and field teams finished third at their annual Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invitational, Friday.
Along with the victories, Puymartin broke the school record for the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a new time of 12:01.72.
As a team, Sewanee finished third in the men's competition ahead of rivals Oglethorpe, Millsaps, Emory, North Alabama, and Berry, On the women's side, Sewanee topped Millsaps, Reinhardt, North Alabama, Oglethorpe, and Berry. Overall, Sewanee had 14 top-five finishes.
Schiavone won her event, the women's 400 meters, in a time of 1:01.30. Teammate Adriana Hibarra was fourth in the same race at 1:07.68.
In the men's 3000 meters, Stockton took first place with a time of 8:48.48. That was just ahead of teammate Mark McAlister (9:07.75), who finished sixth. Overall, four Tigers finished in the top-20.
Martin won his event, the men's 110-meter hurdles, in a quick time of 17.81 seconds. Additionally, Davis Couch finished second in the men's 400-meter hurdles and sixth in the 400 meters. Jourdan Redden finished third in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:39.12.
In the field events, Davis won the men's javelin with a throw of 52.49 meters.
