Track and Field begins outdoor season at Rhodes Open
Memphis, Tenn. (March 17, 2012) – A partial Sewanee track and field team began their outdoor season in Memphis, Tenn. today at the campus of Rhodes College.  They continued their record-breaking season with a new school record in the hammer throw, set by Amy Nelson, and a new school record in the 3000m steeplechase, set by Caroline Roberts.
 
Amy Nelson finished 13th in the hammer throw with 36.81m, while Caroline Roberts placed seventh in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:57.64.  Nelson also placed 10th in the discus throw with a final distance of 31.97m.
 
On the men’s side, Justin Taylor placed sixth in the discus throw with 40.13m. The men’s 4x800m relay team finished third.  The relay team, comprised of Clay Bond, John Gilmer, Hudson Robb, and Miller Thornbury, combined for a time of 8:25:87. 
 
12th place finishes were recorded by Hudson Robb in the 5000m run and Tyler Wilcox in the 3000m steeplechase.  Justin Taylor finished the day 15th place in the shot put, with a distance of 11.83m.

The next meet for the Tigers is the Emory Classic. They will compete in Atlanta, Ga., on March 30th and 31st.
