2009 Track and Field: Sewanee Hosts SCACs: Brown Sets SCAC Record
SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee wrapped up competition at the 2009 SCAC Track ad Field Championships on the Mountain and the Tigers finished in ninth place for the women and fifth for the men. Rhodes won the women’s team championship with 217 points and Trinity won the men’s with 198 points. Chalankis Brown (Millbrook, Ala., Stanhope Elmore)highlighted Sewanee’s effort with a pair of first place wins in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. His time of 10.75 was a provisional national qualifier and a new Sewanee and SCAC record.

Other top three finishes for the Tigers were John Ugorji’s win in the men’s 400 meter dash, Ugorji’s third place finish in the 200 (22.94),Jeremy Character’s third place mark in the men’s shot put of 13.36 meters, Allan Long’s second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, and the third place finish of Sewanee’s 4x100 meter relay team with a mark of 42.65. All top three finishers are given All-Conference honors by the SCAC. Leisha Meade (Sevierville, Tenn., Pigeon Forge) highlighted the women’s effort with a school record in the hammer throw of 33.03 (6th place). She was also sixth in the shot put.
