SEWANEE, Tenn. (May 10, 2017) – Sewanee men's tennis student-athlete Avery Schober earned a bid into the NCAA Singles Championships the NCAA released, Wednesday.
This is the third time in his Sewanee career that the two-time All-American has earned a national individual bid.
For the individual championships, the national committee selected seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions. The individual championships will consist of 32 singles players. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on win-loss record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
The team championship will take place May 22-24, and the individual championships May 25-27, both at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee and will be hosted by the University of the South and the Chattanooga Sports Commission.
All season, Schober was great in singles and doubles. Individually, Schober finished 14-3 while in doubles, the former SAA Player of the Year finished 13-5. Currently, Schober is ranked fifth regionally in singles and 24th nationally.
