No. 18 Sewanee extends winning streak to eight with victories over Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 9, 2017) – The No. 18 Sewanee men's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight straight matches with weekend victories at Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps.

The Tigers are now 16-2 overall and 5-0 in SAA action. Sewanee's last loss came at Redlands during spring break.

Sewanee 9 --- BSC 0

After Sewanee swept all three doubles matches, Sewanee continued to roll in singles. Avery Schober, Andres Carro, Jack Gray, Jordan Brewer, Davis Owen, and Aubrey Davis all won singles matches.

Sewanee 6 --- Millsaps 3

On Sunday at Millsaps, Sewanee opened as Gray and Alejandro Becker won at No. 1 doubles against Centurion and Plummer, 8-4. At No. 2, Carro and Brewer teamed up for an 8-5 victory against Marti-Vertiz and Beck. Finally, Schober and Davis won by the same 8-5 score against Friedler and Niehaus at No. 3. 

In singles action, Sewanee pushed its lead to 4-0 after Carro defeated Luce at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Gray then topped Henry Friedler in at No. 3, 6-4, 6-4. Sewanee's final win came when Owen defeated Ananth 7-6, 6-2.

Millsaps won at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 singles.

Sewanee returns to action by hosting No. 1 Emory, Tuesday.
