Sewanee will play Elmhurst in NCAA Tournament
SEWANEE, Tenn. (May 5, 2014) – For the first time since 2006, the Sewanee men's tennis team earned a berth in the NCAA Men's Tennis Division III Tournament the selection committee announced Monday.
The Tigers will take on Elmhurst in the first round in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, May 9. The time of the match is still being determined.
The winner of the Tigers and Bluejays match will then play No. 13 Whitman in the second round. Regional host and No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis awaits the winner of the Cole and Earlham contest, which will also be played in St. Louis.
Sewanee enters the postseason with a 14-6 overall record and has won its last three matches. The Tigers earned an at-large selection after winning both the SAA Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the second straight season.
Elmhurst currently has a 16-4 record and earned an automatic bid after winning the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship. The Bluejays will be making their first-ever trip in the NCAA Tournament.
