ATLANTA (April 30, 2014) – After winning its second straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Tennis Championship, the Sewanee men's tennis team won all three major conference postseason awards the SAA announced Wednesday.
Headlined by SAA Player and Newcomer Avery Schober, the Tigers completed the sweep when head coach John Shackelford was named SAA Coach of the Year.
Shackelford earned his first conference honor after Sewanee finished 14-6 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference action. Against SAA opponents, Sewanee outscored its opposition 75-7.
Schober earned both his awards after he finished with a 17-3 record in singles and a 12-4 mark in doubles. Schober has a No. 12 Atlantic South Regional ranking in singles and has won his last 12 matches. That included victories against No. 24 Washington & Lee and No. 8 Middlebury.
Winkler currently has a 10-7 overall singles record and a 12-6 record in doubles. That included an unbeaten singles record in SAA play.
Roddy finished with a 14-3 overall singles record and like Winkler, the sophomore added a 12-6 mark in doubles.
