Tigers win 13th straight SAA match; defeat OU, 7-2

ATLANTA (March 30, 2014) – The Sewanee men's tennis team pushed its Southern Athletic Association (SAA) winning streak to 13th straight matches after the Tigers defeated Oglethorpe 7-2, Sunday.

Sewanee is now 6-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in league play. In fact, the Tigers have never lost an SAA match.

The defending league champions opened the match by taking two out of three doubles matches. After a loss at No. 1, Eric Roddy and Connor Winkler defeated Benjamin Hirsch and Cedric Andre 8-2. At No. 3 Sean Laughlin and Avery Schober topped Kirk Zhao and Craig Borne 8-2.

In singles play, the Tigers stayed strong.

Schober opened by winning at No. 1 6-4, 7-6 over C.J. Antonio. Rand Jackson then topped Hirsch at No. 2 in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.

Winkler then defeated Nick Robby 7-5, 6-2 while Roddy earned a 6-2, 6-3 over Zhao.

Finally, Cooper made quick work over Matt Jones at No. 6 by a score of 6-2, 6-4.

The lone win for OU came at No. 5 as Andre defeated Scott Gallimore 6-2, 6-4.

The Tigers will look to continue their league unbeaten streak with a 11:00 a.m. match at Hendrix Saturday, April 5.
