Men’s tennis falls against No. 10 Middlebury

ATLANTA (March 23, 2014) – Despite two wins from Avery Schober, the Sewanee men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision against No. 10 Middlebury, Sunday, in Atlanta.

Middlebury opened with a pair of doubles wins. The lone victory for the Tigers early came as Schober and teammate Sean Laughlin defeated Peter Heidrich and Ari Smolyar at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (11-9).

In singles, Schober then earned a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 win at No. 1 over No. 17 Alex Johnston.

After winning the first set at No. 2 singles, Connor Winkler could not hold on in the third-set tiebreaker falling against Branter Jones, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.

Middlebury then won the final four matches in straight sets.

Sewanee returns to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with an 11:00 a.m. (EST) at Oglethorpe Saturday, March 29.
