Winkler named SAA Newcomer of the Year; three Tigers honored by the conference

ATLANTA (May 1, 2013) – After winning the 2013 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Tennis Championship, head coach John Shackelford's team earned a number of postseason awards the conference announced Wednesday.

Led by SAA Newcomer of the Year Connor Winkler, Sewanee earned four awards.

Winkler was named to the All-SAA First-team while senior Levi Joy and freshman Eric Roddy were selected to the league's honorable mention squad.

Winkler stepped onto the courts and made an immediate impact. In his first season, Winkler won 14 times in singles and nine with a doubles partner. Additionally, Winkler did not drop a single match to a conference opponent in the regular season.

Like his teammate, Joy played well for the Tigers. The Brock, Texas native earned nine singles wins and 11 doubles victories.

Finally, Roddy added 12 wins in singles and another 11 in doubles.
