Gabriel Bellott-McGrath enters his first year as an assistant with the Sewanee swimming and diving programs.

He comes to Sewanee as a graduate of perennial D3 powerhouse Kenyon College, where he was a 4-year varsity swimmer, NCAA Championship medalist (bronze 4 x 200 freestyle relay) and Conference Champion (gold 4 x 200 freestyle relay) as well as an individual qualifier and competitor at NCAAs in the 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle.

In summer 2016, Bellott-McGrath served as a coach under 2016 Rio Team USA Olympic Coach Dave Kelsheimer on Team Santa Monica (TSM) – a premier USA Swimming club – as an age group competitive coach and lead swim lessons instructor. He also swam under Coach Kelsheimer as a training partner to Team USA Olympic finalist and World Champion Jordan Wilimovsky. While at TSM, Bellott-McGrath further benefitted from the tutelage of two other USA National Team coaches, Jimmy Dabney and Mohammad Khadembashi.

As a swimmer, Bellott-McGrath developed through Atlanta-area USA Swimming club, Stingrays Swimming, under Coach Ian Goss, where he rose to a top-100 overall national ranking (swimmers of any age) and competed at USA Junior Nationals. In high school, he competed under Coaches Bridger Bell and Pete Higgins at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta – renowned nationwide for both swimming and academic successes – where he set the school record in the 200 freestyle.

Bellott-McGrath brings further coaching experience from two years heading a summer team coaching staff in his hometown and brings further developmental experience in competitive swimming from his summers at Virginia Swim Camps under legendary collegiate coaches Mark Bernardino and Don Easterling.

Bellott-McGrath has a B.A. in Biology from Kenyon College. He was a youth orchestra violinist where he grew up in Marietta, Ga. and continues to enjoy playing and performing. Bellott-McGrath is a knowledgeable automobile aficionado.
