BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 10, 2017) – The Sewanee men and women's swimming and diving teams ended day three of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships in fifth place.
The Tigers' best performance of the night came from senior Caty Hueske. The senior from Charleston, S.C. earned the SAA title in the women's 100 Backstroke. Hueske's time of 58.91 seconds was the only sub-one minute mark of the finals.
Earlier in the evening, Sewanee opened the competition as Kyle Schnell and Mac McNally both finished in the top-8 of the men's 100 Butterfly. Schnell finished in sixth place in 53.59 seconds while McNally was seventh at 53.81. Noah Martin of Centre won the event with a time of 49.53 seconds.
Junior Meghan Mulhern then continued her great week with a fifth place finish in the women's 200 Free. Mulhern just missed another all-conference selection with her time of 1:57.86.
A race later, the women's 100 Breaststroke, Kaylee Pierson performed well with a fourth place finish. Pierson's time of 1:09.55 was six seconds off the pace set by winner Becca Erwin of Birmingham-Southern.
Both Tiger teams then finished fifth in the 200 Medley Relays. On the women's side, Caroline Kerr, Pierson, Mary McCarthy, and Brianne Holsomback finished with a time of 1:56.46 while the men's squad of Schnell, Chris Lotz, Jarrod Marable, and Peter McCarthy posted a mark of 1:42.35.
On the diving board, Jed Henrichsen finished just off the podium with a fourth-place finish in the men's 1-meter event. Henrichsen finished with a total of 258.65. Teammate Winston Westbrook was seventh in the 1-meter with 235.20 points.
