SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2017) – In their final regular season meet the Sewanee swimming and diving teams seem to be peaking at the right time. On Friday both programs swept visiting Transylvania inside the Fowler Center on senior night.
In the men's competition, Sewanee topped the Pioneers 142-43. On the women's side, the Tigers crushed Transy 146-88.
After Transy won the first event, the women's 400 Medley Relay, Sewanee got on the board. In the men's 400 Medley Relay, the team of Michael Whitehead, Chris Lotz, Andrew Freibert, and Kyle Schnell touched the wall in 3:48.60.
Owen Pearson then won the men's 1000 Free in 11:29.70.
That was followed by a win from Ashley Krueger in the women's 200 Free. Her mark of 2:06.56 was seven seconds faster than Transy swimmer Maci Quisenberry.
Peter McCarthy (1:59.23) and Schnell (2:03.98) then went first and second in the men's 200 Free.
The victories continued in the next event, the women's 200 IM. Senior Caty Hueske topped five competitors with a winning time of 2:20.23.
Minutes later, Mulhern won for the second time after she touched the wall first in the women's 100 Butterfly. Her time of 1:04.25 was more than three seconds faster than runner-up Kiali Jelinek.
In the final events, Freibert (100 Fly – 53.25), Pierson (100 Free – 57.95), Mac McNally (100 Free – 52.77), Pearson (100 Backstroke – 1:08.41), Hueske (500 Free – 5:34.70), Whitehead (500 Free – 4:55.19), and both 400 Free Relay teams all won.
Sewanee will now continue training for the upcoming SAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
