Freibert leads Sewanee against Birmingham-Southern and West Florida

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Jan. 14, 2017) After a successful training trip over the holiday break, the Sewanee swimming and diving teams returned to action at Birmingham-Southern, Friday. 

Competing against BSC and NCAA Division II program West Florida, the Tigers had a number of great performances.

In the swimming events, Meghan Mulhern finished second in the women's 1000 Free with a time of 11:20.21. At the same distance in the men's race, Peter McCarthy was just behind winner Sam Cook of BSC with a time of 10:58.44.

In the men's 200 Free, Dylan Presswood finished second with a time of 1:57.35 while Owen Pearson was third at 2:02.05.

Teammate Kipling Klimas finished second in the men's 100 Breaststroke when he touched the wall in 1:02.20. That was only two seconds behind winner Caleb Riggs of BSC.

In the next men's race, the 200 Fly, Kyle Schnell was second in 2:09.84. The first swimming win came in the men's 50 Free as freshman Andrew Freibert topped the seven-man field in a quick 22.69 seconds. Freibert also won the 100 Free in 49.10 seconds and the 100 Fly in 55.01 seconds.

Additionally, Klimas continued his great performance in the 200 Breaststroke. His time of 2:15.92 was second against behind Riggs.

In the diving events, Noel Whitlock was second in the 3-meter competition with a total of 213.45. Jed Henrichsen won the men's 1-meter drive with a score of 161.85.
