Men’s Soccer Wins First SAA Contest with Clean Sheet of Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The Sewanee men's soccer team used a 3-0 first half to defeat the Warriors of Hendrix College, 4-0, Friday night to earn its first Southern Athletic Association win of 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers struck first in the 11th minute of the match. Alpo Sipilä scored his first goal of the season to make it.

-Kyle Johnston came to life in the 26th and 29th minutes with an unassisted goal, followed by a goal off a Thompson Schollaert pass. The senior now has eight goals on the 2018 campaign, matching last season's career-best mark.

-In the 73rd minute, Sipilä took a corner kick, and Severin Velasco found the pass for his third goal of the 2018 season.

-Sewanee finished with 19 shots on the night and 17 corner kicks. The Tigers recorded 10 shots and 13 corners in the opening half. Hendrix took its first shot of the contest in the 79th minute.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Kyle Johnston scored two goals on four shots, while Ben Vaeth had three shots.

-Alpo Sipilä recorded four points on the night with a goal and two assists.

-Evan Stuber (2-1-1) saved two shots in 84 minutes.

HENDRIX KEY STATISTICS
-Eli Brizendine took three shots for the Warriors, one shot on goal.
