Hall’s Second Half Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer over Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Sewanee men's soccer team were deadlocked in a 2-2 tie after 45 minutes, but a second half goal gave the Tigers the win over the Majors of Millsaps, 3-2, Sunday afternoon from Harper Davis Field.

The two teams exchanged goals twice in the first half. The Majors (5-5-2, 1-2-1) netted the first goal of the game in the 14th minute, but almost seven minutes later, Ben Vaeth netted his second goal of the year to even the contest at one goal apiece.

Sewanee (6-6-0, 2-2-0) took the lead for the first time in the match on an Andile Tshuma goal from Ben Vaeth, his second of the year, in the 41st minute.

The lead, however, would not last long. 36 seconds later, after Will Merriman blocked a shot by Millsaps' Tore Schutt, Luca Kistner netted the ball into the goal for his second goal of the year to even the matchup at two goals apiece.

Tied 2-2 after 45 minutes of action, the Tigers were looking for an answer, and they found it. In the 47th minute, Rhodes Hall netted his second goal of the year off a pass from Alpo Sipilä.

Millsaps out-shot Sewanee, 19-10 in the contest, including 11-3 in the second half, but the Sewanee defense held off to earn the win.

Sewanee returns to the mountain this weekend to host Hendrix Friday night at 7:30 p.m. from Puett Field.
