Men's Soccer Opens 2017 Campaign with Clean Sheet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Tigers men's soccer team open the 2017 season with a 1-0 shutout of Guilford at the Birmingham-Southern College Labor Day Classic at Goldfarb Field.

The Tigers and the Quakers were neck and neck for the first 54 minutes. However, in the 55th minute, freshman Andile Tshuma tallied the lone goal of the match for the Purple and Gold.

Sewanee (1-0) outshot Guilford (0-1) 19-7, with 10 of Sewanee's 19 shots coming in the first 45 minutes.

Will Merriman (1-0) saved four shots and earned the clean sheet.

The Tigers wrap up the BSC Labor Day Classic on Saturday afternoon with a contest against Randolph. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
