Ryan Stubits Selected SAA Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association on Monday afternoon, senior midfielder Ryan Stubits was named the SAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in Sewanee's two wins this past week.

He recorded a 34-of-53 (64.2 percent) performance at the face off in Sewanee's two wins over Piedmont and Scranton.

The senior won 20 of 23 attempts in Sewanee's 16-5 win over Piedmont and scooped up 10 ground balls.

In the 9-8 win over Scranton, the Mullica Hill, N.J. native won 14 of 20 face offs and scored a goal. He won 4-of-5 in the fourth quarter.

So far in six games in 2019, Stubits has won 100-of-138 (72.5 percent) face offs for Sewanee. His 100 wins is the most in the SAA. Currently with 539 in his career, the senior is chasing down Hal Smith's (C'15) conference record of 628 career wins.

Stubits and the rest of the Tigers return to action Saturday in the Southern Athletic Association opener against Centre at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
