Men’s Lacrosse Tripped Up in Season Opener at No. 13 Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - The Sewanee men's lacrosse team opened the season with No. 13 Roanoke on Friday. The Maroons took the contest, 17-7, from Kerr Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Maroons netted the first three goals of the contest, but Sewanee broke its side of the scoreboard with eight seconds remaining with an unassisted goal by Daniel Burnum.

-Despite the momentum by Sewanee at the end of the first period, it immediately shifted to the home team, as they went on a 6-0 scoring run in the second quarter.

-The Tigers made the contest as close as a five-goal deficit with 13:53 left in the third, but the Maroons put it away with three straight goals in almost a 5:30 span.

-Roanoke is ranked 13th according to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Daniel Burnum scored four goals on nine total shots.

Ryan Stubits won 19-of-28 face offs and scooped up 14 ground balls.

-Bryce Womack (0-1) saved 13 shots in full time.

ROANOKE KEY STATISTICS
-Wyatt Naylor scored six points on five goals and an assist.

-Ian Davies (1-0) saved 10 shots in 57:20 of action in between the pipes.
