SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's lacrosse team will be seeking its seventh straight appearance and its fifth championship in seven years at the Southern Athletic Association Tournament when the season begins Friday at No. 13 Roanoke.
BRING 'EM BACK, BRING 'EM BACK: All top-four attackers: Hayden Hunt, Jake Vaughn, Thomas Lynde and Will Pratt return to the Tigers offense in 2019. The trio combined for 107 of the team's 192 goals last season.
Hunt and Lynde were First Team All-SAA selections, while Vaughn was listed as the Newcomer of the Year by the conference. Pratt was a Second Team selection.
STUBS MAKE WINNING FACE OFFS LOOK EASY: An All-SAA Second Team selection a year ago, Ryan Stubits led the SAA in face offs won last season with 209, which was a conference record, breaking Hal Smith's 2013 record of 206. He also led the conference in ground balls picked up with 112.
In the last two seasons, Sewanee has led the SAA in face off wins with 273 in 2018 and 246 in 2017. The 273 set last season is a new conference record, breaking their previous high of 271 set in 2013.
REMEMBERING ONE LOST: This past fall, Sewanee lost one of its freshmen too soon: Stephen Bogusky. During the season, the men's lacrosse team will promote on social media a student-athlete weekly that shows the determination that Stephen showed in his short time at the University.
#Sewanee2022: The men's lacrosse program welcomes 11 newcomers to the program: Stephen Bogusky, Andrew Bolin, Josh Daniels, Ethan Edwards, Nico Ferrari, George Greer, Ryan Hofstetter, Jack Lambeth, Drew Mullen, Spencer Talley and Rucker Wilkinson.
GAMES TO WATCH: The Tigers' final three games of the season all come on the road. Two of those three come against teams who the Tigers battled within the regular season: Berry on April 6 and Rhodes on April 14.
In the Tournament semifinals last year, the Tigers took down the Vikings on the road before falling to the Lynx in the Championship Game in Memphis.
