SEWANEE, Tenn. - Announced by head coach Marty Watters, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team has announced its 2019 schedule, which includes six homes contests at Historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
The team will start the season on the road with contests at Roanoke (Va.) and Guilford (N.C.) on Feb. 22 and 24.
The Tigers will look to end a three-game losing streak with the Maroons in 2019, as the teams will meet for a fifth straight year.
Sewanee leads the all-time series with Guilford, 4-2, including winning the last three meetings.
The Tigers' home opener will be Feb. 27 with a contest against Augustana (Ill.). The teams will meet for the first time in program history.
Next, the Purple and Gold will hit the road again for a test with Kenyon (Ohio) on March 3. The two schools will meet for the first time since 2014, and Kenyon holds the series lead, 4-2. Sewanee has won the last two meetings, both by one-goal decisions.
Sewanee returns to the Cumberland Plateau for a three-game homestand, beginning with a mid-week contest with Piedmont (Ga.) on March 6. The Tigers and Lions will square off for the first time in program history.
Another first-time opponent for Sewanee comes on Sunday, March 10 with an afternoon matinee with Scranton (Pa.).
The homestand will conclude on Saturday, March 16 with the Southern Athletic Association opener against Centre. Sewanee leads the all-time series, 8-2, and they have won the last five meetings.
Over spring break, the team will travel to Colorado Springs for two contests at Colorado College on March 19 and a neutral site matchup with Springfield (Mass.) on March 21.
Sewanee will play Colorado College for the first time since 2015, as they have won the last two meetings. This will be the first trip to The Centennial State since 2012, when the teams were members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
Springfield and Sewanee will meet for the first time in school history.
The Tigers will step back into conference play on March 23 with a contest at Oglethorpe. The teams will meet for the 10th time in team history, and the Tigers have taken the previous nine meetings.
The final two games of the season come on the last weekend in March. Sewanee's final non-conference contest will be against Transylvania (Ky.) on March 29. The teams will meet for the third consecutive year, with the Purple and Gold winning the previous two meetings.
Two days later, the Tigers return to SAA play with a showdown with the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern, as the teams will meet for the 16th time. Sewanee leads the all-time series, 12-3, winning the last 11 meetings.
The month of April will see the Tigers on the road at Berry (April 6), Hendrix (April 12) and Rhodes (April 14).
Sewanee leads the all-time series against each of the three opponents. Sewanee leads Berry, 9-3; Hendrix 12-0; and Rhodes 6-3.
The Tigers will rematch with Rhodes as the teams met last year in the SAA Championship final.
The 2019 SAA Championships will play the first round on April 20, as the top two seeds receive a bye. The semifinals and final will take play April 26 and 28 at the highest remaining seed.
The Tigers finished with a 10-7 record in 2018 and an appearance in the final of the SAA Championship.
