Men’s Lax Wraps Up Non-Conference Play with an 11-8 Triumph Over North Central

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's lacrosse team concluded non-conference play on Friday night with an 11-8 victory over North Central from historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

-Sewanee started the match with three goals in the first four minutes of play, with the third a man-up goal by Henry Burns.

-Trailing 4-1 after the first 15 minutes of action, the Cardinals netted four goals in the second period, including a 3-0 run in a four minute span to even the score at five goals apiece with less than five minutes to go.

-The Tigers responded with two goals in the final four minutes of the half to lead 7-5 at the break.

-Each team showed strong defense in the third quarter, with each team allowing one goal in the period.

-In the fourth, trailing 8-6, North Central netted a goal with 9:53 to go to make it an 8-7 contest, but the Tigers added three key goals in three and a half minutes to secure the win, 11-8.

-Henry Burns laced a hat trick for the Tigers on eight shots. He also tallied an assist.

-Thomas Lynde added two goals and assists each.

-Ryan Stubits, who won 10-of-12 faceoffs, also collected 10 grounders.

-Cal Pearce scooped up five grounders and caused three turnovers.

-Tal Wharton (2-1) started for the Tigers in goal, and he saved 11 shots.

-Nick Pardo netted a hat trick for the Cardinals, while John Fitzgerald collected six groundballs.

-Steven Faux and Chris Ivie each forced three turnovers.

-Dylan Cost (2-4) saved 19 shots in full time for North Central.

The Tigers conclude their weekend homestand on Saturday, as they step back into Southern Athletic Association play when Oglethorpe comes to the Domain for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
