ATLANTA (May 2, 2017) – Ten members of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship Sewanee Men's Lacrosse team have earned all-conference honors.
Junior Peter Brown, Jake Rubenstein, and Cason Liles were named to the All-SAA First Team. Selby Austin, Hayden Hunt, Wil Rainer, and Joe Randazzo were named to the All-SAA Second Team while Thomas Lynde, Tyler Calnan, and George Pratt were honored with spots on the All-SAA Honorable Mention Team.
In his junior season, Brown continued to be one of the most explosive offensive midfielders in the SAA. Brown finished 11th in points (37), 15th in goals (21), seventh in assists (16), sixth in man-up goals (4), and third in shots (103).
On the opposite side of the field, Rubenstein was one of the Tigers' top defenders. Rubenstein ranked 37th in groundballs (33) and 10th in caused turnovers (17). Along with his teammates and goalkeeper Austin, the Tiger defense was third in goals against average and fourth in caused turnovers.
Liles continued his great career as a faceoff specialist. He won 104 faceoffs in 164 attempts. That equaled a 63.4 win percentage. Along with Ryan Stubits, Sewanee led the league in faceoff wins.
In his final season in goal, Austin ranked second in winning percentage and third in goals-against average. In conference only matches, Austin was second among all league players in save percentage (59.5) and wins (4) while ranking first in goals-against average (6.78).
Like Brown, Hunt was one of the Tigers' top offensive players. At X, Hunt was often a tough matchup around the crease. The sophomore finished with 32 points, 20 goals, 12 assists, and five man-up goals. All four statistical categories ranked in the top-20. Additionally, Hunt was fifth in shots and 25th in groundballs.
Finally, Rainer and Randazzo combined on defense for 18 caused turnovers and 43 groundballs. Like Austin and Rubenstein, both Tigers were part of the top defensive unit in SAA matches.
