Sewanee pulls away from Hendrix in the second half

CONWAY, Ark. (April 16, 2017) – A big second half led the Sewanee men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 win at Hendrix, Sunday.

The Tigers wrapped up their regular season with an 8-6 record. The Tigers will enter the SAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed.

Sewanee opened the contest with a strong first quarter. Goals by Jimmy Parker, Hayden Hunt, Will Pratt, and Thomas Lynde pushed the Tigers in front 4-1 by the end of the first 15 minutes.

In the second quarter, the momentum flipped. Hendrix outscored the Tigers 4-1 the next 15 minutes. During that stretch, only Lynde scored for Sewanee.

However, out of the locker after halftime, Sewanee's offense returned to form. An early goal by Parker sparked a 9-1 run the final two quarters.

Hunt scored again while Kip McGuire, Pat DiMento, Tristan Robinson, George Pratt, and Drew Crain also found the back of the net.

McGuire led the offense with three goals, nine shots, and two groundballs. Overall, Sewanee led in shots 56-32 and finished with an advantage in groundballs and faceoffs won.

In the circle, Cason Liles finished 8-of-12 while Ryan Stubits went 9-for-11.

In net, Selby Austin and Tal Wharton combined for 14 saves while Stewart Roddey added two caused turnovers. Finally, Liles, Stubits, and Hunt all led the Tigers with four GBs.

Sewanee will now await its opponent in the SAA Tournament. The Tigers will play Friday, April 28 against the winner between Centre and Berry on the campus of host Rhodes College.
