Austin and a balanced attack leads Sewanee to a key 11-8 win at Berry

ROME, Ga. (April 8, 2017) – Led by senior Selby Austin and a balanced offensive attack, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team earned a key 11-8 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win at Berry, Saturday.

The Tigers improved to a perfect 4-0 in SAA action. Sewanee and rival Rhodes are currently tied for first place in the league standings. Both teams will play each other April 14. The Tigers will square off against Oglethorpe, Sunday.

In the contest against the Vikings, Sewanee got off to a great start. First quarter goals by Peter Brown, George Pratt, Kip McGuire, and Thomas Lynde pushed Sewanee in front 4-1 by the end of the first.

Both teams scored three goals in the second. For Sewanee, Hayden Hunt, Tyler Calnan, and Brown all found the back of the net.

Down 7-4 at halftime, Berry rallied back. The Vikings scored three of the next four goals. After a goal from Pat DiMento, Berry answered back with scores from Chris Berchock and McKinley Gannon.

However, any chance of a Berry comeback was short lived as Sewanee responded in the fourth. A goal by Tristian Robinson sparked a 3-0 Tiger run. Will Pratt and Hunt also scored during that stretch.

Overall, Sewanee had 10 players finish with an offensive point. On defense, Jimmy Parker, Pratt, Jake Rubenstein, Jake Chintz, and Hunt all had caused turnovers.

In goal, Austin led all goalkeepers with 14 saves.

Gannon and Berchock both led Berry with two goals.
