SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 31, 2017) – After a great start, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team stayed unbeaten in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a 12-7 win over rival Birmingham-Southern, Friday night at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
The Tigers are now 3-0 in conference action. Sewanee will next play at Berry April 8 after the Tigers' match against Millsaps scheduled for April 2 was canceled.
In fact, Sewanee outshot BSC 31-11 in the first half. BSC answered back with two goals to start the third quarter. However, any Panther momentum was short lived as Brown and Hunt scored back-to-back Sewanee goals midway through the third.
In the final quarter, Sewanee put the game away with early goals from Lynde and Kip McGuire. BSC did score five times in the fourth, however, Sewanee's advantage was never threatened with additional goals from Thomas Oliver and Henry Burns.
Overall, Sewanee dominated on offense with a 56-28 shot advantage. The Tigers also forced 24 BSC turnovers and had 46 groundballs.
Individually, senior Selby Austin was outstanding with six saves in 49:38 minutes of action. Wil Rainer also played well with two caused turnovers and three groundballs. Additionally, George Pratt finished with four groundballs while Ryan Stubits added eight. Stubits also finished 13-for-23 on faceoffs.
McHale Schneider and Thomas Grove led BSC with two goals each.
