SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 11, 2017) – Will Lukas of Skidmore scored three times as the visiting Thoroughbreds earned a 10-5 win over the Sewanee men's lacrosse team Sunday at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
Skidmore took an early lead after two goals in the 10th minute of the first quarter. Cody Legeza scored an unassisted goal before Lukas ripped in his first score seconds later.
Sewanee got on the board four minutes later, when Will Pratt scored an unassisted goal. Unfortunately, the Thoroughbreds took control over the next 26 minutes. Skidmore built its lead to as much as six, 7-1, after Corbin Dunn scored midway in the third quarter.
Tyler Calnan did score in the fourth quarter for Sewanee, however, Skidmore answered with goals from Lukas, Brendan Halloran, and Chris Melligon.
Sewanee was undone by a low shooting percentage and a 15-for-26 effort on clears.
The Tigers outshot Skidmore 44-34 and did win 12-of-18 faceoffs.
Austin also finished with 12 saves in goal. Skidmore keeper Chris Baughan finished with 17 saves in 60 minutes.
Sewanee returns to action with its first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match of the season next Saturday. The Tigers welcome rival Centre for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
