Morris records 100th career assist; Tigers roll past BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 28, 2014) – Senior Michael Morris scored three goals and dished out three assists, as the Sewanee men's lacrosse team rolled over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Birmigham-Southern, Friday, 12-4 at Panther Stadium.

With the win, Sewanee improved its overall record to 6-3. The Tigers are also now a perfect 3-0 in league play.

The Tigers opened the first period with goals from Hayden Byrd, Davis Brown, and Cotter Brown. After the Panthers rallied late in the period with two goals, Sewanee took command with three unanswered scores in the second.

During that stretch, Reed Daniel, George Bukawyn, and Morris all found the back of the net.

In the second half, Sewanee stayed on the attack. In the third period, the Tigers extended their lead to as much as nine, 12-3, with goals from Baylor Koch, Morris, Daniel, and Byrd.

With 9:15 left in the third, Morris assisted on Koch's goal for his 100th career assist.

BSC would added one final goal in the fourth, as Evan Lalande scored for the second time in the half.

Overall, Sewanee forced 30 BSC turnovers and outshot the Panthers 50-24. The Tigers also had an advantage in groundballs, clears, and face-offs.

Individually, joining Morris, Byrd added two goals and an assist while Daniel finished with a season-high three goals. Buckawyn also had a multiple-point match with one goal and one assist.

In goal, senior Tommy Healy made eight saves in the win while Wil Rainer finished with three caused turnovers.

Sewanee continues SAA play with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Millsaps, Sunday.
