Despite an improvement, No. 18 Sewanee drops to fifth at the SAA Championships

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 22, 2017) – Despite a six-stroke improvement, the No. 18 ranked Sewanee men's golf team dropped a spot to fifth place after the second round of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Golf Championships.

The Tigers fired a second-round 301 for a two-day 608. No. 8 Rhodes leads the field with a 595 while No. 7 Oglethorpe is four strokes behind the Lynx. No. 29 Centre and No. 17 Berry are both within 10 strokes of the lead.

Individually, No. 42 Patrick Mills of OU leads all players with a two-round 145.

Taylor Mottern and Nick Powell lead Sewanee with a 151 total. Mottern and Powell are currently tied for 14th place after each fired 76s on Saturday.

Freshmen Gray Matthews and Tommy Oliver both sit in a tie for 26th with a 155 total. Oliver had the best round of the day for the purple and gold, a 71, after he finished with an 84 on Friday.

Finally, George Hite and Alex Wedding are both tied for 33rd with a 161 total.
