No. 18 Tigers in fourth after the first round of the SAA Championships

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 21, 2017) – Battling tough weather conditions, the No. 18 Sewanee men's golf team is currently in fourth place after the first round of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships.

After a slow start, the nationally-ranked Tigers battled back to finish the day with a 307 total. The Tigers are behind No. 17 Berry, who leads the field with a 298, No. 8 Rhodes (299), and No. 29 Centre (305).

No. 3 ranked Ryan Elmore of Berry leads the talented and ranked field with an even-par 72. Sewanee's Taylor Mottern and Nick Powell are both tied for fifth after opening the tournament with 75s.

Freshman Gray Matthews is only two strokes behind his teammates with a 77 and is tied for 15th. George Hite is tied for 27th after an 80 while Alex Wedding is currently tied for 35th after his opening-18 hole 82.

Finally, freshman Tommy Oliver posted a first-round 84 and is tied for 39th.
