Battling a tough field, Sewanee in 10th after first round of Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational

ATLANTA (April 8, 2017) – Battling against a tough field, the No. 19 Sewanee men's golf team is currently tied for 10th after the first round of the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational.

The Tigers opened with a 307 on the par-70, 6,510 yard Smoke Rise Country Club course. No. 1 ranked Huntingdon leads the field with a 289 total. Host and No. 3 ranked Emory is second at 291 while No. 18 Berry, No. 8 Rhodes, and No. 7 Methodist round out the top-five. Overall, 13 teams are ranked in the field.

Individually, Ryan Elmore of Berry, along with Will Thrash of Huntingdon, lead all players with 69s.

Gray Matthews and Nick Powell led the Tigers with opening rounds 74s. Both players are tied for 21st. Alex Wedding opened with a 79 and is tied for 55th while Tommy Oliver finished with an opening 80.

Finally, Taylor Mottern is currently tied for 82nd after he finished with an 86.
