No. 18 Tigers sit in 21st after first two rounds of Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (March 18, 2017) – The No. 18 ranked Sewanee men's golf team closed out its first two rounds of the elite Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational in 21st place.

After not being able to complete its first round on Friday due to a frost delay, Sewanee finally finished the opening 18 holes Saturday morning with a 309 score. In the second round, the Tigers improved by four strokes for a 305. No. 22 Washington & Lee leads a field that features 23 ranked teams with a two-round 288. No. 1 Huntingdon sits three strokes behind at 292.

Individually, freshman Tommy Oliver leads the Tigers with a six over par 150. Oliver is currently tied for 42nd. Fellow freshman No. 54 ranked Gray Matthews is tied for 62nd with a 152 total while Nick Powell is currently tied for 79th at 154.

Taylor Mottern improved by two strokes in his second round and is now tied for 108th with a 36-hole 158 while Alex Wedding is tied for 144th after his 168 two-round total.

Sewanee continues the three-day event on Sunday.
