No. 19 Tigers tied for eighth after first round of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational

ROME, Ga. (Oct. 17, 2016)  The No. 19-ranked Sewanee men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the opening round of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational, Monday, at Stonebridge Golf Club.

Playing against a field that features multiple teams in the top-30, Sewanee opened with a 304 team score. No. 13-ranked LaGrange leads the field after the Panthers finished with an impressive seven-under-par 281. Rhodes, who is ranked fifth nationally, actually sits in second and third place. The Lynx A team finished with a two-under par 286 while the Rhodes B team closed out Monday with a 294.

Individually, No. 17-ranked Osborn Theam of LaGrange leads the field after his opening-round seven-under par 65. No. 5-ranked Logan Lanier, also of LaGrange, is two strokes behind his teammate with an opening-round 67.

Freshman Tommy Oliver led the Tigers with a first-round 75. Oliver, who has consistently finished in the top-10 this fall, is currently tied for 22nd. The first-year Tiger opened the front nine at even par. Despite two birdies on the back nine, Oliver finished at plus three over the final nine holes.

Only a stroke behind Oliver, Gray Matthews and Taylor Mottern are currently tied for 31st while senior Alex Wedding finished Monday with a 77.

Finally, Garrett Lucey is tied for 71st after he opened the tournament with an 81.
