ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association on Monday afternoon, sophomore guard Luke Smith has been chosen as the SAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week, following his performance on the hardwood last week at Covenant and Belhaven.
The reigning Newcomer of the Year in the SAA finished the week as the leading scorer in both of Sewanee's wins this past week.
Averaging 33.5 minutes of play, the sophomore scored 22 points per game and shot 56 percent from the field, 50 percent from downtown. Adding 14 rebounds to the week, he also added 14 dimes and an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.5.
In Tuesday's 84-65 win at Covenant, the Knoxville, Tenn. native scored 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting and posted eight assists, six boards and three steals.
In the 74-57 victory over Belhaven on Saturday, Smith dropped 18 points, eight rebounds and six dimes.
Smith and the rest of the Tigers return to the court Wednesday night with a showdown against No. 18 Emory inside Juhan Gymnasium. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
