JACKSON, Miss. - The Sewanee men's basketball team used a 48 percent second half shooting from the floor to defeat Belhaven University, 74-57, Saturday afternoon from Rugg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The atmosphere of Rugg Arena was a factor in the first half, as each team did not have more than a one-possession lead.
-That would change late in the first half. After Belhaven drained free throws with less than three minutes left in the period to even the score at 29, Sewanee finished the half on a 6-2 run, with all six points coming from Luke Smith.
-Despite 11 ties and nine lead changes, the Tigers' offense came alive in the second half. Leading by four at the break, 35-31, Sewanee went on a 13-1 run in over a three-minute span to run away from Belhaven.
-The team got the lead as high as 20 points, 72-52, with a Jack Holloway layup with less than three minutes to go.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Luke Smith scored 18 points and added eight boards and six dimes to lead all scorers.
-Hunter Buescher scored 17 points thanks to 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
-As a team, the Tigers made 20-of-27 from the charity stripe, good for 74.1 percent.
BELHAVEN KEY STATISTICS
-Rick Hodum led Belhaven scoring with 11 points off the bench as the Tigers defense held the Blazers to 42.2 percent shooting and 29.4 from downtown.
Sewanee returns home for a showdown with 18th-ranked Emory. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 inside Juhan Gymnasium.
