DEMOREST, Ga. - The Sewanee men's basketball team captured a road win over the Lions of Piedmont College, 80-68, Tuesday night from the Cave Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite the Lions netting the first bucket of the game on a jump shot, the Tigers raced out to a 9-0 run thanks to five points from Hunter Buescher to lead 9-2 with 17:36 left in the opening half and kept the lead for the remainder of the game.
-The Lions held in check from there, not getting the deficit to more than three scores, but it was the Tigers, thanks to 6-of-17 from beyond the arc and 10 fastbreak points, led 41-32 at intermission.
-The second half, the Purple and Gold held the home team in check, limiting them to 36 percent from the floor, and 1-of-9 from beyond the arc, as they pulled away for the program's first road win of 2018-19.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Hunter Buescher led all scorers with 21 points and six assists to lead the offense. The senior finished 8-of-14 from the field.
-Cam Caldwell nearly missed a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Jordan Warlick dropped 10 points, corralled five rebounds, four on the offensive glass, and dished out three dimes.
-Luke Smith went 8-of-9 from the charity stripe en route to a 17-point performance.
-Matt Lee recorded six boards and three steals.
PIEDMONT KEY STATISTICS
-Marquise Lanier went 7-of-14 from the field and finished with 17 points to lead the Lions.
Sewanee returns home this weekend for the Lon Varnell Classic, as they host Johnson (Tenn.), Brevard (N.C.) and Berry. The Tigers will go toe-to-toe with the Royals of Johnson Friday night at 6 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium.
