SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team saw a game-winning three-pointer by senior Hunter Buescher to help the Tigers to a season-opening victory over the Hawks of Huntingdon College, 65-63, Friday night from Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams played back-and-forth for the first 20 minutes of the contest. However, each team got out to a slow start from the field. Sewanee trailed 14-10 at the under 8:00 media timeout.
-The game remained close throughout the remainder of the first half, but it was the visitors who led 30-27 at the break.
-Each program picked it up where they left off, but it was Sewanee who used a 13-4 run to take a 40-34 lead with 15 minutes left in regulation.
-The Hawks would rally back and tie the contest at 58 with three minutes to go thanks to an Isaiah King free throw.
-The Hawks made it a one-score game, 63-60 lead with 44 seconds left. After a layup by Hunter Buescher with 28 ticks to go, the Tigers were forced to foul, trailing by one. However, the attempted free throws by Huntingdon were missed and the Tigers retained possession with 20 seconds left.
-After Sewanee recorded nine turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, the Tigers settled down in the second half. The Purple and Gold recorded just two turnovers in the second half, while the Hawks coughed up the ball seven times.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Hunter Buescher scored 25 points to lead all scorers, missing his career-best by two that he scored last season. The senior went 8-of-17 from the field and assisted on three shots.
-Jordan Warlick, off the bench, drained 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, grabbed seven boards and four assists.
HUNTINGDON KEY STATISTICS
-James Harris led Huntingdon with 10 points and two assists.
-Trey Livingston recorded 10 boards.
The Tigers opens the road schedule Tuesday night at Piedmont.
