NASHVILLE - The Sewanee men's basketball played an exhibition contest with the defending ASUN Tournament Champions in Lipscomb Tuesday night, falling 97-53, from Allen Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers, who led the nation in defensive three-point shooting, held the Bisons to miss their first five shots from downtown. Lipscomb drained their first triple with 12:30 to go in the opening half.
-The Bisons, despite poor shooting from beyond the arc, pulled away early thanks to a 20-5 lead at the under-12 timeout thanks to 10 points off of Sewanee's eight turnovers. The Tigers may have been out-shot by the Bisons on treys, 5-4, but the Purple and Gold limited them to 27.8 percent from downtown.
-Lipscomb held Sewanee to 29 percent shooting (6-of-21) in the opening half, as the home team took a 44-21 lead at intermission.
-Sewanee settled in the second half, recording five second half steals and eight assists.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Cam Caldwell recorded seven points, all coming in the final 20 minutes. The reigning Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Defensive Player of the Year played in 17 minutes.
-Luke Smith, the defending SAA Newcomer of the Year, led Sewanee with 11 points and seven boards in 30 minutes for Sewanee.
LIPSCOMB KEY STATISTICS
-Ahsan Asadullah led all scorers with 26 points and nine rebounds.
-Garrison Mathews added 16 points for the Bisons.
The 2018-19 season will officially begin Friday night with a non-conference showdown against Huntingdon. Tipoff inside Juhan Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
