Caroline Sugar Tabbed SAA Defensive Player of the Week for Second Time

SAA Release

ATLANTA - Announced by the Southern Athletic Association Monday afternoon, freshman defender Caroline Sugar has been selected as the SAA Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in 2018.

The Canton, Conn. native was a huge presence for the Sewanee defense, getting possessions from Concordia Wisconsin out of the circle and into transition for the offense.

Additionally, she held the Falcons' leading scorer Megan McPike to one shot and no points on the day. Thanks to the defense of Sugar, McPike was held to no points in a conference game for the first time this season and the fourth time overall.

Sewanee defeated CUW on Saturday at Puett Field, 3-1. With the win, Sewanee earns the No. 3 seed in the 2018 SAA Field Hockey Championship. The Tigers will rematch with the Pioneers of Transylvania in the opening round Friday afternoon in Conway, Ark.
