Field Hockey Scores Three in Second Half to Shut Out Wittenberg

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Three goals by the Sewanee field hockey team was more than enough, as the Tigers downed Wittenberg, 3-0, Sunday afternoon on the campus of Rhodes College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite Sewanee taking five of the eight shots in the first half, neither team could find the back of the cage.

-That would change in the second half. In the 47th minute, Hannah Tompkins passed the pall to the reigning Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week in Ceara Caffrey to break the scoreless draw for her sixth goal of the season.

-A little over a minute later, Milly Etheridge put the Tigers ahead 2-0 with her fifth goal of the season.

-In the 63rd minute, Violet Hoagland added some insurance for the Tigers with her first goal of the year.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ceara Caffrey, Milly Etheridge and Violet Hoagland each recorded goals for the Tigers.

-Hannah Tompkins collected an assist in the eventual game-winning goal.

-Caffrey finished with four out of the team's 10 shots.

-Kadie Hicks (2-1) saved two shots in full time to collect the clean sheet.

WITTENBERG KEY STATISTICS
-Megan Niswonger recorded four of the team's five shots in the contest.

-Allie Purvis saved two shots in the first half, but it was Kate Liebeskind (0-1) who suffered the loss.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will travel to Boston next weekend with a contest against Becker on Friday.
