Caffrey’s Hat Trick Helps Tigers Advance to SAA Semifinals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The first round of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Field Hockey Tournament started off right for the Sewanee Field Hockey team, as they defeated Concordia Wisconsin in the first round, 3-1, Friday from Rhodes College.

The Tigers (8-7) were led by Ceara Caffrey, who recorded a hat trick opening round contest, scoring in the 24th, 53rd and 62nd minutes. The sophomore now has 13 goals on the year.

The Scituate, Mass. native took 11 total shots, eight on goal, for the contest.

With Sewanee's sticks struck fire on Friday, as they took 33 shots to Concordia Wisconsin's (5-9) six.

The Falcons would avoid the shutout with a 53rd minute goal by Kelsey Fulton.

Katya Waters (7-7) earned the win, saving four shots in full time. 

Sewanee advances to the semifinals of the SAA Tournament, as their next opponent will be against top-seed Rhodes. Face off is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday from Memphis.
