Sewanee Falters at Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. - The Sewanee field hockey team were unable to stop three second half goals from the Roanoke Maroons, falling on Sunday afternoon, 4-1, at Kerr Stadium.

Roanoke (2-0) recorded a first half goal in the 17th minute, and the Tigers (1-1) trailed 1-0 at halftime.

After a second goal by the Maroons to make the contest 2-0, Katie Wilson netted her first goal of the season on an unassisted goal in the 64th minute to make it 2-1.

However, the Maroons, who scored six times against Ferrum on Friday, netted two insurance goals late in the contest to seal the match.

A stifling defense by the Maroons, the Tigers were limited to only six shots in the contest.

Katya Waters (0-1) saved 11 shots in her 35 minutes of action, while Rachel Blum recorded eight saves.

The Tigers are back in action next weekend with a trip to Earlham College. The Tigers will face the hosts Earlham Saturday morning at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend with a neutral-site contest with Oberlin at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
