Field Hockey Opens 2017 Season with 1-0 Win over Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Sewanee field hockey team opened the 2017 team with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite Saturday afternoon at the EMU Turf Field.

Eastern Mennonite (0-1) outshot Sewanee (1-0), 20-19, and 13-5 in the second half. However, one of the five shots the Tigers took in the second half, found the inside of the net.

In the 50th minute, Monica Bueso made the unassisted goal into the corner of the goal.

The Royals took the next nine shots after the goal, but thanks to Rachel Blum's (1-0) seven saves in the second half, she kept EMU off the scoreboard.

Katya Waters saved three shots in the first half for the Tigers.

Sewanee will finish their first weekend road trip Sunday with a matchup at Roanoke College at 10 a.m. CT.
